Description
The 1980-1986 Ford F150 transmission range provided versatility and economy, as several were designed to fit with a variety of engine models. The tough 4.9L I6 (300 cubic inch) V8 was often coupled to a 3-speed manual transmission, 4-speed manual or the sturdy C6 automatic transmission that produced 115 horsepower and was solid for heavy-duty and everyday driving. The 4.2L (255 cubic inch) V8 that made 115 horsepower was also offered in the early 1980s, usually paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission for quiet, efficient acceleration.
To boost power, the popular 5.0L V8 (302 cubic inch) motor (which developed between 130 and 190 horsepower) was available as a 4-speed manual, a sturdy 3-speed automatic, or the more recent AOD automatic, which featured overdrive for fuel efficiency and easier highway acceleration. Those setups made the 1980-1986 Ford F150 a highly versatile and work-friendly truck.
